Are you familiar with them? I have to admit, until I began my part time concierge job at Whole Foods, I wasn’t. Daily I would get phone calls asking if we had them in stock. At Christmas time, our store could hardly keep them on the shelves and to be perfectly honest, I couldn’t understand why. I have always been more of a stilletto kind of girl:
(Meet Carlos. We’ll get to Tom momentarily)
However, working at Whole Foods a few days a week doesn’t really make these shoes very practical for me.
So, Toms…Didn’t love them at first sight but I must admit, they’re growing on me.
THEN, yesterday, a woman came in wearing these, and I was hooked:
My store doesn’t carry these awesome glitter versions, so I looked up Toms website and found even more reasons to fall in love:
They are insanely comfortable and since they come in these cute girly styles, I think I’m a convert. Of course, the more research I did on these shoes, I also discovered that they were born out of an EXTRAORDINARY humanitarian effort.
One for One Movement
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. Blake returned to Argentina with a group of family, friends and staff later that year with 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by TOMS customers.
After watching this video, I have NEVER wanted to buy a pair of shoes so badly in my whole life. It doesn’t take much for me to want to drop my entire pay check on shoes, but this…this makes it worth doing. How sweet are those children?
Feel good about going shopping for a change!
