Barcelona Love

wpid-Photo-Nov-28-2012-934-AM.jpg

I’ve always had a total love affair with Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Chair.

Van der Roe designed this piece for the 1929 Barcelona Exposition and the rights to manufacture the chair were acquired by Knoll in 1953.

There have been many knock off variations inspired by this classic design but the original will always be considered a work of art and a timeless classic. (click on the post title to read more)

No One Says Happy Holidays Sweeter Than Darth Vader

Good morning! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. Is it me or are the first few days back to work after a long holiday weekend just the worst? Ugh!

We spent Thanksgiving day preparing all kinds of food to take to my sister-in-law’s house (and by “we”, I mean “I”. You know how that goes) only to decide at the last minute we could’t possibly go because our little guy started running a slight fever. Thank GOODNESS our neighbors across the street still had their turkey deep fryer out (that sounds so redneck, doesn’t it?). Within an hour, we had a deep fried turkey and all the sides I had been preparing all day and voile! Thanksgiving dinner for 4. (click on the post title to read more)

Happy Black Friday To Ya!

wpid-Photo-Nov-13-2012-443-PM.jpg

Good gracious, I adore a well done black room. I haven't had the opportunity to do this myself as of yet but I'm absolutely dying to attack a project like this. There are so many factors go into producing this look in a successful way, namely lighting and architecture. My house, personally, has little […]

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, one of my favorite holidays ever, namely because I LOVE to cook Thanksgiving dinner. This year though, because it totally snuck up on me, we didn’t make big plans here at the Casa. Instead, we are going to my sister-in-law’s house where there will be other hands involved in the fixings and while part of me is a little disappointed not to get to do the whole dinner myself, I have to admit, I am relieved and really looking forward to spending the evening with little nieces and nephews and my husband’s sweet family. Dining Room Inspiration

With Thanks Giving just a little over a week away I have gone into full blown panic mode over the state of my dining room. Most people are blogging about their beautiful fall table-scapes and autominal decor and here I am, just trying to pull my dining room together in time to slap a giant turkey in the middle before next Thursday. Details in Black

wpid-Photo-Nov-12-2012-1153-AM.jpg

As much as I am all about crips white details, I can’t help but also love white’s antithesis, black.

Black details are rich and serious and add dramatic weight to a room in a way that no other color can do in the same graphic manner. (click the post title to read more)

We ARE America

wpid-Photo-Nov-6-2012-1246-PM.jpg

It is finally over. Election season is done for another 4 years and the best part of it is, no matter who wins or how you voted, at the end of the day, we ARE ALL Americans. What an enormous privilege to live in a country that encourages us to think freely and speak confidently by our own convictions. Other countries may not understand or agree with the way we do things but this is what makes us unique and the greatest country on earth, imperfections aside. (Click the post title to read more)
